Blog Post #1: French Alpine Summers

For as long as I can remember, each summer has brought an incredible journey of discovery and adventure. Leaving behind the bustling streets of San Francisco, I would embark on a magical escape to the picturesque landscapes of the French Alps (hello Heidi!), where my grandparents resided. These annual trips have become more than just vacations; they have become a cherished ritual that has shaped my perspective on life and enriched my understanding of different cultures.

1. A Breath of Fresh Air:

As the plane touches down in France, I can already feel the excitement bubbling inside me. The fresh mountain air envelops me like a comforting hug, and I know I'm in for a summer like no other. In San Francisco, skyscrapers and city lights define my world, but in the French Alps, it's the majestic mountains, lush green meadows, and charming villages that capture my heart…and chalet lifestyle :)

2. A Cultural Immersion:

From the moment I would arrive at my grandparents' chalet, I was fully immersed in a new way of life. The French Alps offer a glimpse into a world steeped in rich traditions and a slower pace of living. I would eagerly partake in the local customs, from savoring unlimited cheese types (ok, not exactly true because I have 5 favorites in constant rotation) to walking down to the village.

3. Nature's Playground:

Nature became my playground during my summer sojourn in the Alps. With boundless energy, I hiked the well marked trails, explored so many awesome lakes, and marveled at the 13433 cascading waterfalls of the Fer a Cheval. Every day was an opportunity to connect with nature, to appreciate its beauty, and to feel a profound sense of harmony with the environment. Yahoo to non stop nature bathing!

4. Time for Togetherness:

Beyond the breathtaking landscapes, what made this experience truly extraordinary was the quality time spent with my grandparents. I loved them so much! They shared stories from their youth, imparted wisdom, and taught me the value of simple pleasures, respecting the mountain and being open and curious. Each moment spent with them was a precious gift, and I treasure every laugh, every shared meal, and every walk through the village and am elated to now share this joy with my own kiddos.

5. Expanding Horizons:

As I grow older, these trips have taught me the importance of stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing new experiences. The French Alps have opened my eyes to different customs, languages, and ways of thinking. It has nurtured in me a spirit of openness, tolerance, and acceptance.

6. Long-Lasting Memories:

Throughout the years, my summer visits to the French Alps have etched unforgettable memories in my heart. Whether it's witnessing the grandeur of Mont Blanc or enjoying a raclette even in summer, these moments have become the building blocks of my identity.

As another summer in the French Alps is here, my heart swells with gratitude and anticipation. The impact of these experiences on my life cannot be overstated. From the breathtaking landscapes to the warm embrace of family, these trips have shaped me into a more compassionate, curious, and open-minded individual. Each year, I return to San Francisco with a newfound appreciation for the world's diversity and a profound understanding of the power of travel to enrich our lives. The French Alps will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I eagerly await the next chapter of this enchanting adventure.
